Goals:

Increase access to and utilization of entrepreneurship curriculum

Expand education and training opportunities

Identify, coordinate and leverage resources for ongoing support of Nebraska entrepreneurs

Locate and secure funding to further the mission

Increase marketing and outreach of entrepreneurial programs and services in the state

Action Plan

• Create a K-20 career pathway with emphasis on entrepreneurship
• Coordinate educational activities with FutureForce Nebraska (Career Pathways)
• Partner with higher education institutions on articulation opportunities and entrepreneurship programs
• Infuse entrepreneurship education throughout all K-20 career pathways
• Develop an inventory of entrepreneurship education opportunities at the secondary and postsecondary levels in Nebraska
• Develop a plan to provide entrepreneurship educational opportunities for targeted populations in Nebraska (under-served populations, minorities, women, micro-entrepreneurs, rural populations)
• Seek federal, foundation and other sources of funding to provide entrepreneurship educational opportunities
• Develop resource centers at each of the community colleges that will provide information and assistance for those interested in entrepreneurship

Accomplishments

• Strategic planning meetings of Nebraska community college representatives to align curriculum offerings, develop common course syllabi and titles, and the create Entrepreneurship diploma and certificate programs
  
  
• Development of the two-year postsecondary course syllabi using the National Content Standards for Entrepreneurship Education to facilitate articulation to both secondary and four-year postsecondary schools
  
  
• Approval by the Chief Instructional Officers of all Nebraska Community Colleges of the following common course titles and syllabi for entrepreneurship course offerings, certificate programs, and degree programs:
• • Introduction to Entrepreneurship
  • Entrepreneurship Opportunity Analysis
  • Entrepreneurship Business Plan
  • Marketing for the Entrepreneur
  • Entrepreneurship Legal Issues
  • Entrepreneurship Taxes and Financial Topics

Development of a Links to Standards “crosswalk” of the National Content Standards for Entrepreneurship Education with Nebraska’s Academic Standards (Language Arts, Math, Social Science, Science Standards)- http://perkins.nde.state.ne.us/links2learn/default.aspx

Creation of an Entrepreneurship Education Listserv to enhance information sharing.  Sign up at http://lists.k12.ne.us/mailman/listinfo/entre-ed

Creation of the E-News Monthly, a newsletter for entrepreneurship educators including Targeted Teaching Topics each month based on the National Standards.  Access current and past issues at http://www.nde.state.ne.us/entreped/enews.html

Creation of a web page on the Nebraska Department of Education web site devoted exclusively to entrepreneurship education at all levels at http://www.nde.state.ne.us/entreped

Assistance in a research study entitled “The Impact of Venture Founder Role Models in High School Entrepreneurship Education” by Monica Godsey, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Spring, 2006)

Participation in the Youth Entrepreneurship Advisory Committee of the Hometown Competitiveness grant, a strategic partnership of the Nebraska Community Foundation, the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, the Center for Rural Affairs, Ho-Chunk Community Development Corporation, Northeast Community College, local development corporations, the University of Nebraska, and private business, and others http://www.nebcommfound.org/HTC.htm

Participation in the 4-H Entrepreneurship Curriculum Design Team which is focusing on the development of entrepreneurship curriculum that can be delivered through local 4-H chapters or within local schools’ curriculm. ESI Curriculum
