Pilot High Schools Report Out:
Norfolk Senior High (Grades 10-12) – Harvey Rosenbaum reported that they
had an Open House for current freshmen and parents featuring the career
and tech ed programs – CTE teachers wore “matching” tangerine shirts.
Seniors took students and parents on tours. PowerPoint was running. Lyle
asked how many students or parents ask about truck driver training—“none”.
14 staff participated in the recruitment effort. Northeast had a booth
advertising Tech Prep dollars. Norfolk uses an “autodial” system to call
incoming sophomore. Gary suggested having Nucor in the classroom of the
welding/drafting.
Dick Johnson (West Point) – Featuring Mechatronics. (also attending the
Chamber of Commerce, Smeal, Wimmer’s) – 150 people attended an
information session during the class day – 7 different sessions were held.
Chamber of Commerce also sponsored an event for adults. The teacher said
that the checklists seem to emphasize expectations outside of the school
realm. Dick has been working with Lori from Smeal’s and will be sponsoring
some field trips. Smeal’s will showcase the Engineering department
(electrical, mechanical, draftsman, CAD designers, also people who have
moved up within the company). Smeal’s also offers tuition reimbursement.
Richard will be retiring this year.
Tony mentioned that Hastings High has an Industrial Career Day in January
during the school day. All other teachers can tour and see a demonstration of
projects or actually work on a project. Central Community College also sets
up a booth.
Schuyler – Has a senior shadow program with Behlen. They come in
Columbus – 2+2 Machine program will be shadowing at Behlen on
Wednesdays for 4-5 weeks.
Columbus Lakeview – David Green reported that the welding checklists are
being piloted.
Gary reported that the followup/feedback forms are the second week in early June
for second half of reimbursement.
3. Strategic Planning Items
